10 Life Lessons No One Is Telling You

Since we all have different upbringings, backgrounds, and experiences, we all have been exposed to things that have familiarized us with different values. Strangely enough, whenever we come across a new valuable lesson, it often crosses our minds why people aren’t talking about it.

There’s so much to learn in this life, and the time we have here on earth probably isn’t enough to cover all of them. But here in the article, we are going to dive into life lessons that no one is telling you.

1. Most advice is useless

This sounds a bit ironic because we are talking about lessons or advice here in this article, but if you would look back at your life and ponder on the pieces of advice you have heard since you were young, you will realize that most of them hold no value.

A piece of advice can only be considered valuable if the person who was giving the lesson has gone through the same exact situation that you have been dealing with. They should also have successfully come out triumphant.

However, you will rarely find someone who has experienced the same thing, which is why no matter how good the advice sounds, if the person saying it has no idea of what you’re going through— it is useless.

Whenever someone gives advice, they really don’t have any accountability for whatever comes next because it will still be you who would be making the decision. It won’t matter to these people whether the advice they give out works or not.

At the end of the day, you are the one responsible for picking up all pieces and bits of the lesson that may be practical to what you are going through. Only pick the advice that will serve you well.

2. You are entitled to absolutely nothing

The harsh truth of life is that no matter how you think you deserve something doesn’t mean that somebody is obligated to give it to you.

Let’s say you applied for a job you are so good at, but you didn’t get accepted even though you are qualified because you lack years of experience. Obviously, that would sting a lot, but you have no right to protest because you are not entitled to any jack shit.

There will be a lot of circumstances where you would feel things are unfair to you in this world. Rather than getting furious and enraged because things didn’t go the way you wanted them to, learn how to navigate such situations instead.

3. Give first, take later

A lot of people find this challenging because they are always looking for something they will get in return for what they give. Perhaps because some have been taken advantage of in the past, and they don’t want to repeat the same old mistake again. Others have been exploited, so they want to make sure to lead on their take.

Of course, if you would lend money to a co-worker and they never pay it back to you despite the constant reminders. You have undoubtedly been taken advantage of. You’ll know better next time, though.

But if you would give out first in the lens of the grand scheme of things, giving first will open a lot of doors of opportunities that it will shut.

4. Even if you’re going through hell, keep going.

Have you ever experienced getting caught in the rain while you’re heading back home? Since the rain dropped suddenly, you have no other choice but to continue going because you know that there’s nothing else to do at that point but to keep on walking.

If you are going through difficulties in life, no matter how painful it is, you need to push yourself to be better. Keep in mind that there’s always a rainbow after the rain, and the skies will eventually be blue gain as time passes by. Everything in this life is temporary, so things will be okay again.

5. Don’t go full speed if you’re going on a bad path

At some point in your life, you will surely make some bad decisions. If you are in doubt or hesitant, the best thing that you can do is not to go open throttle and full sail.

Not going full speed is what most neophyte investors have learned the hard way. They heard of a good investment, got interested in it, and used up all their hard-earned savings just to end up losing them all.

Don’t give out everything you have in investments you know nothing about. Always make sure to test the waters first before fully diving deep into them.

6. If you don’t create, you consume

The world is divided into consumers and creators. If you don’t build and establish your own path, someone else will do it in your stead. If you don’t prepare your own meal, you’ll need to buy from someone else.

A vast majority of people are consumers, and only a tiny portion of the population are creators. The latter are the ones who get wealthy.

7. You are on your own

The famous African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This isn’t a lie, but if you would ponder on life, you are still on your own nonetheless.

In reality, if you don’t take care of yourself, no one else is going to do it for you.

Each and every one of us is the main character of our own play, having our own ambitions, hopes, and aspirations. Although you will be with other people all throughout your journey, you will always be solely accountable for yourself.

8. A lot of people are dumb, and you probably are too

Many people out there are dumber than you think— including you. There’s a big chance that you are not as smart as you think you are because you have no single idea about the things that, well, you have no idea about.

You need to be aware of the things that you don’t know, adopting the learners’ mentality. Life is a journey, and you should be on a learning quest while you’re at it. Be mindful of your own limits and always take the opportunity to break them at your convenience.

9. You tell a story every day, whether you like it or not

People judge the book by its cover. Well, literally. After all, why would the giant subscription streaming service spend millions optimizing their movie posters? Why would the famous YouTuber Mr. Beast spend $10,000 on his thumbnails?

The way you show yourself to the world tells a story, whether you like it or not. If you would spend all your free time to binge watch a series, you tell yourself a story. If you go to flip-flops or to your sister’s wedding, you tell a story. Whatever it is that you do, you are telling a story.

So, what story are you telling to the world?

10. When a door closes, another one doesn’t open automatically

One truth that many people don’t realize is that things don’t transpire to you. They just happen because they are meant to, and coincidentally, you’re in the vicinity. It’s just the same with opportunities.

The door metaphor often gets used to getting some comfort chamber, but don’t take that as a piece of advice or a pattern because that’s not the way things work.
